We helped each other’s careers- Medikal on relationship with Sister Derby

In the world of music, it’s not uncommon for artists to collaborate and support each other in their careers. But for Ghanaian rapper Medikal and his sister, singer-songwriter Sister Derby, their relationship goes beyond just working together in the industry.

Medikal, whose real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong, recently sat down with a Ghanaian news outlet to speak on the bond he shares with his sister and how they’ve helped each other’s careers.

“I think our relationship is one of the most unique in the industry,” Medikal said. “We’ve always been there for each other and we’ve always wanted to see each other succeed.”

The two siblings grew up in the same household and have always been close. According to Medikal, Sister Derby, whose real name is Deborah Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu, was the first person to introduce him to music.

“She used to play a lot of music around the house and I used to listen to it,” Medikal said. “She’s the one who really got me into music and I’ve always been grateful for that.”

As Medikal began to make a name for himself in the music industry, Sister Derby was always there to support him. In turn, Medikal has always been there to support his sister’s career as well.

“We’ve always been there to give each other advice and to help each other out,” Medikal said. “If she needed me to be in a video or if I needed her to be on a song, we’ve always been there for each other.”

One of the biggest ways the two siblings have helped each other’s careers is through collaborations. Medikal has featured Sister Derby on several of his songs, including “Too Risky” and “Odo.” And Sister Derby has also featured Medikal on some of her songs, including “Kakalika Love” and “Uncle Obama.”

But the two siblings’ collaborations go beyond just music. They’ve also worked together on several business ventures, including a clothing line.

“We’ve always had a great business relationship as well,” Medikal said. “We’ve always had a great understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses and we always know how to complement each other.”

The two siblings’ relationship is not only unique in the music industry, but it’s also a great example of how siblings can support each other in their careers. Medikal and Sister Derby have shown that by working together and supporting each other, they can achieve great success in the industry.

“I think that’s what makes our relationship so special,” Medikal said. “We’ve always been there for each other and we’ve always wanted to see each other succeed. I’m really grateful to have her as my sister and I wouldn’t be where I am today without her support.”
