As the December 2024 general election approaches, six prominent members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are vying for the party’s flagbearership. Two of these contenders, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen (Minister of Trade and Industry) and Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto (Minister of Food and Agriculture), have already resigned from their Cabinet positions in order to focus on gaining the support of party delegates. The other five contenders include Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Energy Boakye Agyarko, former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, former MP Francis Addai-Nimoh, and former Minister of State Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku. All of these individuals are leading members of the NPP and have strong political backgrounds.
