Elite referee Daniel Nii Laryea has been selected to officiate at the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup in Indonesia, scheduled from November 10 to December 2, 2023. He is the sole Ghanaian match official and one of only 11 African referees chosen for this prestigious youth football tournament.

With a wealth of experience, the 34-year-old Laryea has officiated numerous high-profile matches, including those in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. He will serve as one of the 18 Video Assistant Referees during the event.

Laryea has also been entrusted with officiating Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualification matches. Notably, he presided over the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg match between Wydad AC and Mamelodi Sundowns last season, which ended in a goalless draw.

His most recent assignment was in June of this year, overseeing a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match between Egypt and Guinea.

Furthermore, Laryea contributed as a Video Assistant Referee during the 2022 CHAN tournament held in Algeria. His role extended to the tournament’s final, held at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on February 4, 2023, between host country Algeria and Senegal in Algiers.
