On Thursday, the Minister of National Security, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah, traveled to Bamako, Mali to deliver a special message from the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to Mali’s Interim President, Colonel Assimï Goita. Alongside a delegation from Accra, Mr. Kan-Dapaah held private talks with Col. Goita on security issues in West Africa and the Sahel region.

In a statement to the press following the meeting, Mr. Kan-Dapaah emphasized Ghana’s long-standing historical and bilateral ties with Mali, dating back to the early post-colonial years, and expressed Ghana’s interest in the welfare and progress of the Malian people. He stated, “We did talk about how we can be of help to each other because a fire in your neighbor’s house has to be of concern to you.”

Col. Goita extended warm greetings to President Akufo-Addo, and Ghana looks forward to continued engagement with Mali. The delegation included Maj. Gen Adu-Amanfoh, Ambassador Kwabena Osei-Danquah, Special Adviser to the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Benedict Dere, Executive Secretary of the Accra Initiative, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Mali, Mr. Napoleon Abdulai.
