According to an official statement from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Andre Ayew will miss the Black Stars’ clash with Angola in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers on Monday, March 27, due to a knee injury. The GFA announced that the team captain tripped and injured his knee after Ghana’s narrow victory over the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The 33-year-old complained of pain in the early hours of Saturday, and subsequent tests confirmed the injury sustained on Thursday. As a result, Ayew will not be traveling with the squad to Luanda after permission is granted by his team doctors.
In addition to Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, Denis Odoi, and Alexander Djiku have also been ruled out of the Angola game due to injuries.
The Black Stars are currently top of Group E after their victory over the Palencas Negras on Thursday.
